The name Norbo was chosen by the Scandinavians who settled the area and was derived from "Nor", meaning - North, and "bo", meaning - to live. A 1918 one room schoolhouse that was built to accommodate children of coal mining families in Centennial School district on the Battle River, was moved 10 miles in 1949 to replace the original Norbo school which had also been moved 2 miles in 1910 to the site overlooking Coal Creek. The building was purchased by the current family when its public use was discontinued, then, in 1987 it was moved to its current site in preparation for renovation, again with views down the Battle River valley. 

 In all three of her resting sites, her orientation is the same, with large East facing windows to enjoy spectacular sunrises, and afternoon shade in the screened in sunroom. Today, a historic marker is all that remain of Norbo School District 1247.
